Evaluation__

Mixed Media Image Making
For this unit i came out with quite a few print making techniques, unfortunately i didn't get to do all the techniques like etching. But i came out with some solid mono prints and lino prints. I really enjoyed the mini metropolis work as well where we made our model city and drew from it using lots of different mark making techniques. Overall i did enjoy the brief because i don't usually do print based work and it was good to go back to it and to paint and draw again as i haven't in a while. If i had the chance to do the unit again i would definitely of done all of the different techniques the class done because i would of liked to try etching.

Location Photography
This brief was definitely one of my favourites as we were just given the title and were told to go off with it. I really did enjoy using the Lego and the circuit boards for photo shoots but i definitely enjoyed the oxford photo shoot most. I think it was a great opportunity to go out and photograph architecture first hand and show it through our work. I was really happy with how my final outcomes came out especially the one where i only slightly shown the circuit board in the image because you had to really look at the image to notice it. If i had the chance to do the unit again i would of done a lot more experimentation, I didn't do this to begin with because my other final where i made it really busy and put a bit of everything into it took me a really long time.

Image Manipulation Computer Application
I really enjoyed doing this because we had complete freedom to chose which units we done so it was very easy to decide what to do. I loved going out and doing my own shoots with a tripod and experimenting with shutter speed because i hadn't done it before so it was a new experience for me which i liked. I was very happy with my dystopia outcomes, not so much utopia because i don't think i spent as much time doing it as i should of. I think this is because i went out knowing exactly what i wanted from the dystopia shoot and the utopia one was kind of on the spot and i didn't really know where to start with it. Overall i was happy with the unit and how it all went.

Graphic Image Making
For this unit i kind of cheated in a way i suppose, i used my finals from my Image Manipulation work and just went further into edits after defacing them. Although i did that i really did enjoy editing the photos in the way i did as i don't usually do that. I also enjoyed finding my own research and just going with thing i ordinarily wouldn't. Because i rushed this unit so much i didn't get to do as much as i wanted but what i did do I'm very happy with. I'm extremely happy with my final image for this unit as it was exactly what i had pictured when i started. Apart from being able to experiment more, i wouldn't change anything about the work i did on this unit.

Final For Graphic Image Making__

I selected this image as my final because out of all my edits this was my favourite. I edited it slightly more by adding text into the corner, i did this because from this image its hard to tell if i am trying to show a utopia or dystopia. I also wanted to show that the meaning of both those word is different for everyone else. through the burn hole it looks like a utopia but from where i've edited the photo you cant really tell what is in the rest of the photo and the dark figure in the background seems to show more dystopia feel in my opinion. Im really happy with the way this image turned out and i wouldn't change anything with it because i think it worked well and shown exactly what i wanted it to.

Graphic Image Making__

I really like this edit i think it worked really well because i kept the colour on the rest of the image. I was going to change it to greyscale but found it worked better this way. To edit this I selected the burn mark and then selected the outer part of the mark and then went to filters and selected film grain. I really like the effect it had on the image and i might use it as a final.

Threshold

The center of this image i selected and then inversed so only the outside was selected, i then edited the threshold leaving the center normal colored i then selected the center again and tweaked the contrast levels so it didn't look really out of place, its an image that i think the more you look at the more fond you become of it.

Graphic Image Making__

For this image i stuck one image on top of the other but i also burnt a whole through the top image to show the one underneath i wanted to give the impression of another dimension to the image. To edit this image i changed the levels and curves to make the image seem darker. I also did this to make the burn mark on the image stand out more. I like this image and i think i may use it as a final outcome. I think i should of maybe done some more editing to it and if i choose to use this as a final i will edit it more.

Graphic Image Making__

For this image i cropped the outer part of the original image i did this so it seems like it is the actual photo. I really like this image i think all the elements work really well together. To edit this image i just changed the brightness and contrast. My idea behind this image was to bring the dystopia into the utopia of the image. Which is why i put the cut up pictures of the city photo onto it and then added the branch of a tree. I really like this image and i think this will be one of my final images.
For this image i only selected the photo in the centre and made it brighter and then changed the levels of the image so the photo would stand out alot more. I like this image because of the splat mark from the wax around the outside. I think this image worked well, im not sure if i will use it as one of my finals though.

Graphic Image Making__

I really loved editing these images, and am really pleased with how they have turned out, i think i could have been a bit finer with the selecting tool, as in been closer to the legs and in between them but you can't really tell unless your told, i don't think i will use this as a final image, but i think they really capture the style of Alex parish the student photographer that i have been researching.

After image, Contact sheet.

For my Graphic Image Making unit I selected 4 photos from my Image Manipulation Computer Applications and defaced them. To do this i used such things as tracing paper ink and wax. I also burnt some of them and ripped them to create a different effect for the photos. I added stuff in like different materials like twigs to give different effects and impressions of them. Using these photos i will now edit them to experiment with different effects and come up with some final outcomes.

Ghada Amer__

Ghada Amer was born in Cairo, Egypt. She now lives and works in New york. But originally studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Nice; School of the museum of Fine arts; Institut des Hautes Etudes en Arts Plastiques, Paris. She has been exhibiting her work since the early 1990's. She describes herself as a painter but she is a multimedia artist whose work includes Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Performance and Installation.
I like her work because it is messy but tidy in the same way. I chose her for my Graphic Image Making unit because when i deface my photos my plan is to do them in the way of deleting parts with paint and text. Also i might stitch into my photographs to delete sections.

Rut Blees Luxemburg__

Rut Blees Luxemburg is a German Photographer who's work has been used for the covers for artists like The Streets and Bloc Party, in which she explores the public spaces of cities and towns.
I chose to use her for my Graphic Image Making unit because the work i am planning to do for this unit will be mainly based around photography but then i will deface the images and edit them again using photoshop. I really like her work because i like the way she uses street photography but makes it seem elegant. I found out about her because she did the cover for a Bloc Party album that i love. I especially love the British Modernism (2006) work in which she photographed stations deigned by architect Charles Holden.

Utopia__

Final Images For Image Manipulation Computer Applications
Utopia
Im not sure if i really like this image. I did this shoot after my dystopia shoot and because i think it went so well and my outcomes i think went so well i was in a way stuck with what to do for the utopia work. My basic idea was to have the same girl stood in an area completely different to the oxford shoot. which is why i chose this location because in a way the trees are replacing the buildings. To edit this photo i basically changed the contrast and brightness of the image, then went on to the colour balance and played around with that until i was happy. If i did the shoot again i would of done most things completely different in my opinion i should of went to more than one place to do the shoot and i think thats why i was so unhappy with the way the images went for this shoot.

With this image i wanted to bring another person into the image so it kind of relates back to the dystopia one in the way of there being atleast one person there. I like this photo in some ways but in another way i think it looks like a dodgy album cover for a band. When i took the image i didnt even think it would turn out like that but when i started working on it more it was all i could think about. To edit the photo i changed the image so it had a very high contrast and brightness. I changed the colour balance to make the colours and the image seem a lot warmer. I also changed the levels on this image to make it seem a lot brighter.

This image is my favourite outcome of the utopia images. I think this because it is the complete opposite of the dystopia images in the way that its the background moving. To edit this image i selected the entire back found and went to blur-radial blur, i then changed the direction to it going back to make it appear as if she is moving really fast trough the trees. My only regret of the image in that when i selected the background i missed a bit and i also went over her foot a little as well so those bits look a bit different to the rest of the image and because i know its there its very annoying. I wanted to go back to giving the impression that she is in a different dimension to the rest of the image which i think i shown well in this image. If i edited the image again i would of selected all the image in the first place to make the image look better.

Dystopia__

Final Images For Image Manipulation And Computer Applications
Dystopia
I like this image because in a way i think it shows buskers and people who sell big issue magazines, in the way that they are sat there in the middle of a large city and they are sat there watching the world go by so fast. I took about 4 different images of the same thing but i chose this one because of the people in the reflection of the door, you can see that they are going by really fast and i think it shows 2 worlds, one which shows a single person alone and the reflection is a busy over populated place where everyone is in a hurry. To edit the image i simply changed the image to black and white and upped the contrast very high and the brightness about half the amount. I also changed the levels and curves of the image. I think if i had the chance to do the image again i would do it the exact same way because im very happy with the outcome.

This image is one of my favourites from the whole day. I like it because in an odd way its like she is in a different dimension. The world is moving fast around her and it just doesn't seem to bother her. To edit this photo i did the same as the one before changing the brightness, contrast, levels and curves the only difference was i changed the shadows and highlight aswell. I think this image worked so well because i went to such a busy part of oxford to do it. When i pictured doing this image this was one i knew for sure i was going to do and it turned out exactly how i expected and wanted it to. So if i did it again i would not do anything differently, except maybe go on a day when it wasn't so sunny and bright.

This image i think worked really well in my opinion, i definately prefered this image to the one i did down the high street, i'm not sure why i think it worked better. In a way i think it was because the people are walking either side her so it looks better and she stands out so much more because she's stood still. To edit this photo i put the contrast on as high as i could then changed the photo to black and white and put the brightness right up to make the whites seem brighter. I then changed the levels of the photos to bring the grey back in, i also made the image darker. I also then changed the curves of the image. If i did this photo again i would of maybe layered another image i took of the same thing just to make the place seem more busy.

This image is my favourite of all my finals for dystopia, i think it truly captures what i was trying to show with dystopia. To make this image i layered two images on top of each other, it worked so well because she is standing in the exact same position and because i used a tripod the only change in the image was the people moving around her. I did this because it makes the people in the background seem like ghosts in a way and i really like that effect. This photo was definately the most difficult to do because before i flattened the image i edited each layer separately and i found that difficult to make both the layers look as if they are in the same image. I think this image also shows that she is in a different dimension very well because of how faded the movement is. the only things still are just her and the buildings. So its like in a way if you took away the movement in an off way the place could maybe be seen as a utopia as well. When editing this photo i did the same as i did to all the others, i changed the image to black and white and played with the levels and curves until i was happy with the way it looked. I also then set the contrast and brightness to what i think suited the image best. If i did the photo again i wouldn't change a thing as its my favourite one of the day.
